In addition to what we recognize as baroque operas–notably those of Handel–the 17th and 18th centuries produced hybrid forms variously combining spoken dialogue, music and dance. France had its opéras-ballets, England what have been called semi-operas. Samples of each were performed Thursday night by the Orchestra of New Spain, at the Dallas City Performance Hall.
